Exlar's Tritex II™ Series AC actuator—available in linear and rotary varieties—won a 2009 Design News Golden Mousetrap Award for Best Product under the category Motion Control/Automation, subcategory Motors & Mechanical Components. The Design News Awards Program has, for more than 20 years, recognized exceptional product design based upon engineering innovation and creativity. This year, Tritex II was one of 23 Golden Mousetrap Award winners selected from a record number of entries.

The revolutionary Tritex II combines an AC powered servo drive, digital position controller, brushless motor and linear or rotary actuator within a single compact, sealed package. Users simply connect AC power and I/O communications to the Tritex II actuator to solve diverse motion applications.

"These products showcase the highly imaginative ways that today's engineers are 'building a better mousetrap,'" Karen Field, Design News editor-in-chief, said of the winners and finalists of the 2009 Golden Mousetrap Awards.

All categories and winners of the Golden Mousetrap Awards can be viewed on Design News' website.

Can you Repeat That... Force?

Exlar's GSX actuators offer best-in-industry force repeatability. Many applications require that a specific level of force be repeated from cycle to cycle—including applications requiring repeatable weld strength, consistent holding force from a clenched fastener, or proper installation force for a bearing. Exlar's GSX Series actuators are designed to offer a true direct drive actuator, in which the magnets of the motor's rotor are bonded directly to its planetary roller screw. This eliminates the inefficiency and inaccuracy of belts, gears or couplings.

Learn more about this Exlar advantage through our Tech Note on force repeatability, which includes actual test data demonstrating the Exlar GSX40 actuator's force repeatability in an open loop system.

Go Green – Replace Hydraulics in Scissors Lift Applications Hydraulics consume twice as much power to operate as a servo electric solution. Plus, potential oil leaks—and the mess they cause—can be cause for concern in both indoor and outdoor scissors lift applications. Read how Exlar products can help companies optimize scissors lift applications and go green to boot!

Get More for Less – Exlar's Cap Closing Solution This cap closing application was previously performed with a pneumatic cylinder and also with a ballscrew. Relco desired more precise control and found that by replacing the pneumatic cylinder with Exlar's Tritex actuator, not only did they achieve more precision, but at a lower cost and in less space. Find out more by reading our full story on the Relco cap closing solution.
